ST. JAMES—The Meramec Regional Planning Commission and the Phelps County Public Housing Authority (PHA) Family Self-Sufficiency Program will host two free workshops in Gasconade and Crawford counties May 13.

The Crawford County workshop will be held from 9 to10 a.m. May 13 in the annex building of Peoples Bank of Cuba, 500 W. Washington, Cuba, Mo.

Special speaker Joan Queen, APV compliance officer with Peoples Bank, will discuss Personal Finance 101 and how finances relate to homeownership.

The Gasconade County workshop will be held 11 a.m. to noon in the community room of Owensville Senior Housing at 1009 Springfield in Owensville.

Phelps County PHA senior housing coordinator, Tammy Rigsby, will present “Budgeting and Savings” and discuss the “10 Steps To Homeownership” at the Gasconade County meeting.
Workshops are offered at no cost to the participant, and pre-registration is not required.

Free training classes are a part of the MRPC and PHA’s efforts to help prepare families who are first-time homebuyers for homeownership and make them aware of the resources available to assist with homeownership. These workshops are apart of MRPC’s outreach efforts in partnership with senior citizen housing groups and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines, which assists with grant funds to renovate senior citizen housing complexes throughout the region.
