Steelville High School senior Emily Whittaker (center) was one of two recipients of a  $500 scholarship from the Richard and Jeanne Cavender Scholarship for Public Service. The Cavenders presented the award to Whittaker in memory of Ron Cowan and Lawrence George, two friends who passed away who were dedicated to public service. Pictured are Jeanne Cavender (from left),  Whittaker and Richard Cavender. The Cavenders established the scholarship through the Meramec Regional Community Foundation and Community Foundation of the Ozarks.
