ADVISORY COMMITTEE

MEETING AGENDA

Meeting will be held at the Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC) in the
large conference room, #4 Industrial Drive in St. James. A light lunch will be served.

• Welcome and Introductions: Connie Willman

• Business Infrastructure: Kelly Sink-Blair, MRPC will provide information on funding available to assist with infrastructure for industry.

• Review of the Current Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy Goals and Objectives: The committee will resume discussion of Goal I: Objective 6: Address Infrastructure Needs – Level 1 Action items:
• Consider existing and potential utility needs and disposal requirements, as well as transportation facilities, in planning for industrial development.
• Assist communities in obtaining needed infrastructure for existing/new businesses.

And if time allows the committee will discuss:

Objective 7: Promote Quality Education – Level 1 Action items.

• Increase awareness of the importance of quality schools and educational institutions to successful economic development.
• Address the “disconnect” between the schools and business/industry.
• Address the need for improved basic/early education.
• Address math/communication skills.
• Address the need for mentors/activities for students.
• Encourage job readiness training (writing resumes and applications and interview preparation)
• Provide information on grants for education/training.

And begin Goal II: Tourism (Include Ag-Tourism) – Level 1 Action items.

• Encourage the development of Route 66 to capture more of I-44 traffic.
