MEETING AGENDA
Meeting will be held at the Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC)
office in the large conference room, #4 Industrial Drive in St. James.
A light lunch will be served.
- Welcome and Introductions:
- Review of the Current Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy Goals and Objectives: The committee will resume discussion of Goal I: Objective 4: Attract New Industry to the Region - Level 1 Action item:
- Maintain a highly competitive posture in economic development efforts in order to retain existing industries and attract new industries.
The committee will then be asked to provide Level 2 action items for the following Objective 5: Encourage Job Development - Level 1 Action items:
- Promote available economic opportunities for young people in order to retain their talents within the region.
- Encourage employment opportunities for both the highly skilled and the relatively unskilled segments of the region's population, and encourage employment opportunities to offset the loss of jobs caused by declining industries.
- Support and expand retraining programs to assist rural residents in adjusting to nonagricultural employment.
- Promote the use of business incubators to assist local entrepreneurs in starting new businesses. (Moved to Objective 5 from Objective 3)
- Support expansion of higher educational opportunities and existing vocational and technical educational programs to improve the skills of the region's labor force.
