March 10, 2011 For more information, contact: Hayes Elected as Chairman of GVEZ VIENNA—Mark Hayes of Vienna was elected chairman of the Gasconade Valley Enterprise Zone at its January reorganization meeting Jan. 27 in Vienna. Hayes, a banker with the Maries County Bank, had previous served as vice president. He replaces Byron Baker, who had served three years as chairman, the maximum allowed under GVEZ bylaws. Also elected was Ray Schwartze, who will serve a vice president. Schwartze is Maries County presiding commissioner. Jerry Lairmore of Owensville, who is a Gasconade County associate commissioner, will serve as secretary, and Larry Backes, city clerk of Chamois, will serve as treasurer. The group will host the annual meeting for Enhanced Enterprise Zones within Maries, Gasconade and Osage counties on March 17 at the Belle-Bland Community Center in Belle. Luke Holtschneider of the Missouri Department of Economic Development will be the guest speaker for the 6:30 meeting. There are four EEZs in the three-county area: the Maries County Enhanced Enterprise Zone, the Gasconade County Enhanced Enterprise Zone, the Osage County Enhanced Enterprise Zone and the Chamois Area Enhanced Enterprise Zone. Each is comprised of a seven-member board. The Gasconade Valley Enterprise Zone works to promote, coordinate and facilitate community and economic development in Gasconade, Maries and Osage counties. A portion of the three-county area is a state designated enterprise zone that offers certain property tax abatements to qualifying companies locating or expanding in the zone. The GVEZ is providing administrative serves to the EEZs through an administrative agreement with Meramec Regional Planning Commission. The meeting is open to the public.
