Phelps County Public Housing Agency officers elected
PHA budget approved for FY 2011-12

ST. JAMES—The Phelps County Public Housing Agency (PHA) elected its officers for the 2011-12 fiscal year at its meeting May 12 at the Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC).

Darrell Skiles of Dent County was elected chairman, Ray Schwartze of Maries County was elected vice-chairman and Marvin Wright of Washington County was elected secretary. Officers serve a one-year term.

Other advisory board members include Ron Jost, Gasconade County, Leo Sanders, Crawford County, and Randy Verkamp, Phelps County.

Deborah Harmon of Cuba, Mo. serves as the board participant.

MRPC Fiscal Officer Linda Loughridge presented the FY 2011-12 PHA budget. Loughridge explained the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) cut the PHA’s Housing Assistance Payments (HAP) to 92 percent and cut administration funding to 81 percent.

Board members approved the budget as presented with a projected ending fund balance for June 30, 2012, of $393,262. This includes a transfer of nearly $38,000 from the PHA’s reserves to cover staff and operational costs, due to funding reduction by HUD.

Loughridge also noted PHA plans to apply for additional program funding and staff would keep the board updated on the process.

On average, the Phelps County PHA assists 743 families monthly and provides rental assistance subsidy of $239,334 monthly.
