Credit, Budgeting Workshops Planned in Leasburg, St. James

ST. JAMES—The Meramec Regional Planning Commission, in cooperation with the Meramec Community Enhancement Corporation and the Phelps County PHA Family Self-Sufficiency Program, will host two free workshops on credit and budgeting in the Crawford and Phelps County areas.

The following workshops are planned:

• Feb. 18, from 2-4 p.m. at Meramec Regional Planning Commission, 4 Industrial Drive, St. James, MO. 65559. The workshop, entitled “To Your Credit,” will cover how your credit history will effect your credit future.

• Feb. 23, 2-4 p.m. in the community room at the Village Apartments of Leasburg, 211 First St., Leasburg. The workshop will cover budgeting and savings.

The workshops are offered at no cost and registration is not required.

Free training classes are a part of the MRPC and PHA’s efforts to help prepare families who are first-time homebuyers for homeownership and make them aware of the resources available to assist with homeownership. These workshops are a part of MRPC’s outreach efforts in partnership with senior citizen housing groups and the

Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines who has assisted with grant funds to renovate senior citizen housing complexes in the region.

MCEC also offers newly remodeled homes to first-time income-eligible homebuyers and assist with down-payment and closing costs. MCEC currently has a two-bedroom home for sale in Cuba.

MRPC is an active, voluntary council of local governments serving Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Osage, Phelps, Pulaski and Washington counties. The 53-member volunteer board, made up of elected officials and appointed representatives, works to enhance the quality of life in the region. A professional staff assists member communities and counties in the areas of economic and community development, environmental planning, business loans, ordinance codification and housing. Since its formation some 40 years ago, MRPC has secured in excess of $40 million worth of grants to benefit specific cities and counties in the region. MRPC also provides administration of the Phelps County PHA, which offers rental assistance to very low-income families in Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Washington counties, and Phelps County, outside the city of Rolla.
