Wal-Mart Distribution Center Hosting Seminar Oct. 29 to Expand Minority, Woman-Owned Vendor Network

ST. JAMES—Wal-Mart Distribution Center 6069, based in St. James, wants to expand its network of vendors to include more minority and woman-owned businesses, especially those in the local area. To start that effort, Wal-Mart Inc. will host a “How to Do Business with Wal-Mart” seminar at the St. James Distribution Center, 1100 Matlock Drive in St. James, from 9 a.m. to noon on Oct. 29.

“This seminar will include an overview of the type of services that we use in this location, along with a tour of the facility,” said Dr. Brad Frazier, general manager of the St. James distribution center.

Specifically, the local company is looking to expand its supplier base to include minority and woman-owned general contractors for retrofits and special projects, subcontractors specializing in refrigeration and EMS installations and companies that deal with roofing, parking lots, painting, structure, plumbing, doors, carpentry, electrical, material handling equipment, landscaping, food equipment, signage, HVAC/R, environmental services and other services.

Such suppliers must be certified as minority or woman-owned businesses, must offer competitive prices and financial stability and must have proven success in the marketplace.

Due to limited space, registration is required and is open to the first 50 people. Interested companies can register by emailing Roger Louderman at rjloude@walmart.com by the close of business on Oct. 15, 2008, for the Oct. 29 seminar.

“We know that there are minority and woman-owned companies in our service area, and we hope that they are interested in learning more about doing businesses with us,” said Dr. Frazier.
