SOLID WASTE BOARD ACCEPTING NOMINATIONS FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT

ST. JAMES – The Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District is now accepting nominations for Outstanding Achievement in Solid Waste Management Awards.

The district strives to recognize and publicize the efforts and achievements of individuals, schools, businesses and organizations in the region in the areas of recycling, waste reduction and reuse. It is the district’s hope that through the public recognition of excellence in programs and activities, others in the region may be encouraged to develop their own projects to improve the management of solid waste.

There are nine award categories that are open to individuals or groups who have demonstrated excellence in environmentally responsible solid waste management. Examples would include an educator who has developed and implemented recycling projects within their school; an industry which has taken steps to reduce, reuse and recycle waste; a local official who has demonstrated commitment to the reduction of solid waste landfilling, or an organization that has provided leadership or initiated innovative programs in recycling, waste reduction or illegal dumping control.

Nomination forms are available online at www.meramecregion.org and are located in the download section.

Nominations must be received no later than Sept. 15, 2006, in order to be considered. The form may be mailed or faxed to ORSWMD, Attn: Josh Hester, 4 Industrial Drive, St. James, MO  65559, fax (573)265-3550 or emailed to jhester@meramecregion.org. Questions can be directed to Tammy Snodgrass at (573)265-2993 or tsnodgrass@meramecregion.org.

The Ozark Rivers District includes Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Phelps, Pulaski and Washington counties. The seven-county area is implementing its solid waste management plan for reducing the amount of waste generated in the district. Scott Murrell of Fort Leonard Wood is chairman of the Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District.
