EMERGENCY PLANNING COMMITTEE TO HOST TRAINING
FOR EMERGENCY RESPONDERS, LOCAL ELECTED OFFICIALS
Training scheduled for Oct. 28-29 in St. James
ST. JAMES-To help ensure that local agencies qualify for future emergency response
funding, the Meramec Regional Emergency Planning Committee is hosting two trainings
on the National Incident Management System (NIMS) for local elected officials
and emergency responders.
The MREPC is hosting IS-100, Introduction to the Incident Command System, and
IS-700-National Incident Management System free of charge.
The IS-100 ICS class will be held from 6-10 p.m. on Oct. 27, 2005 and again
from 8 a.m. to noon on Oct. 28. This course introduces students to the Incident
Command System, its history and will offer examples of how ICS is interdisciplinary
and organizationally flexible.
The IS-700 ICS class will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. on Friday Oct. 28, 2005 and
again from 6-10 p.m. on Friday Oct. 28, 2005. This course introduces students
to the National Incident Management System and will describe key concepts and
principles and identify benefits of using NIMS as a national response model.
All classes will be held at Meramec Regional Planning Commission, 4 Industrial
Drive, St. James, MO. 65559.
Local elected officials and emergency responders need both the IS-100 and IS-700
in order to meet NIMS compliance guidelines, pointed out Tammy Snodgrass of
the Meramec Regional Planning Commission, who provides staff support for the
MREPC. Law enforcement, fire, EMS, dispatch and public health personnel are
also encouraged to attend.
"We have designed the training so it can fit most any schedule," explained
Snodgrass. "For those that work during the day, they can participate in
the evening trainings and take both classes. Or, if their schedule allows, they
can spend all day Friday with us and complete both classes as well. We hopefully
designed it to meet many schedules," she added.
The training is being conducted by the Missouri Sheriffs' Association Training
Academy.
The training qualifies for four hours of Missouri POST Continuing Education
Units in the area of Technical Studies for each four-hour block attended through
the Missouri Sheriffs' Association Training Academy, a POST-approved continuing
education provider.
To register by phone for the trainings, persons should contact Donna Arney at

To receive a class registration form, persons may contact Tammy Snodgrass at
MRPC, 573-265-2993 or by email at tsnodgrass@meramecregion.org. Participants

The Meramec Regional Emergency Planning Committee works with local governments
as well as the private sector to maintain plans responsive to chemical hazards,
which seriously threaten the area. The committee periodically coordinates and
offers training opportunities for emergency responders in the region. Quarterly
meetings are open to the public. Meramec Regional Planning Commission, a voluntary
council of local governments serving the Meramec Region, provides staff support.
